Melges 24 SAISA Racing Event A Success!

Florida Tech Collegiate sailors take the Melges 24 for a spin on Lake Lanier, near Atlanta, GA!

SAISA Melges 24 Regatta Score Sheet

The Class had a great Melges 24 racing event this last Saturday at Lake Lanier Sailing Club (LLSC) with the collegiate sailors crewing on our local Melges 24 sportboats. Five racing teams competed from each of these top colleges: University of South  Florida (USF), Florida Tech (FT), North Carolina State (NC State), College of Charleston (CofC) and Georgia Tech (GT).

The breeze was a bit slow filling in on Saturday, but by 1.30 pm the fleet had 8-10 knots from theSouthwest which made for some very tight racing between the college teams. We ran five Windward - Leeward races, the collegiate crews were all very close through out the event. USF secured a solid first place with 5 bullets, NC state finished in 2nd place with 13 points, and FT close behind with 16 points The CofC and GT finished 4th and 5th place respectively.

All the crews had a great time and were very impressed with the performance and handling of the Melges 24. The event went so well and teams were so excited about the Melges 24, they have requested a repeat event early next year, so stay tuned for details!
