| LABOR DAY IS ANNAPOLIS RACE WEEK, AUG 30-SEPTEMBER 1 - REGISTRATION IS OPEN NOW! | |||
For ARW this year we have gone back to three, 3-day courses run by AYC, EYC and NASS. We are also running PHRF-N allowing double headsails and the new Cruising PHRF fleet (with spinnakers) on a daily distance race. All of this will be coordinated by On-The-Water Race Chairman, Jeff Borland. The decision to move back to three circles was influenced by the Melges 24 fleet that wanted to race 3 days, and the lack of support last year by the two remaining classes on the 2-day circle. For the party, we have gone to a one or three day advance card purchase for drinks. No more waiting to buy drink tickets. The food is by Adam's Ribs who are also supplying bartenders familiar with large crowds. This in conjunction with not having to deal with tickets should move things along nicely. Tim Wilkes will be doing stills of your boat. Tucker Thompson will be doing a daily movie with commentary. We will have a Orlando Phillips on Saturday night and a solo artist coming all the way from Park City, UT playing on Sunday and Monday. Daily trophies will be given each day. With the 2008 North American Championships being held in Annapolis this October, teams from around the country are starting to hone in on the Annapolis and Chesapeake Bay waters to gain valuable 'local knowledge' of the regatta venue. Enhancing the challenge of Melges 24 racing are the Bay's interesting current patterns - best way to figure them out is to sail in them. John Downing and his USA 686 team from California is already a confirmed entry and multiple other strong teams from outside the local region have pledged their verbal commitment to attend Annapolis - all looking to make a play at the 2008 North American Championship title.
