30 JUNE 2008 - In addition to the initial press release distributed last week in regards to Dave Ullman's appearance for a training and tuning clinic on the proceeding Thursday, here are some clarifications about the Newport Regatta specifically for the Melges 24s:

WET SAIL
As it has done in past regattas, Sail Newport is requiring that all participating boats to remain in the water throughout the regatta. This will be stipulated in the sailing instructions and competitors can find more information about this rule in that document.

HOIST, LAUNCH & DOCKING : MELGES 24 CORAL
Sail Newport is offering free dock space, car parking, trailer storage, and use of their two hoists. All Melges 24s are to be stored at the docks in the area known as the Coral near the Yachting Museum. As you enter the Fort Adams property just continue driving past the Sail Newport hoists until you run out of road. You can’t miss the Coral.

RACE COURSE
The Melges 24 race course will be in the ocean. Everyone should plan ample time to sail, or motor out to the race course each day.

WEIGH-IN
1.) All competitors must arrive to weigh-in with their forms semi-complete.
2.) Weigh-in will take place in the parking lot adjacent to the Coral where all participating Melges 24s are scheduled to dock for the regatta
3.) Team Brick House is providing the use of their sprinter van for the weigh-in. The van will provide ample privacy and space for the weigh-in.

DAVE ULLMAN TRAINING CLINIC - EXCLUSIVELY FOR THE MELGES 24s!
In support of the Melges 24 class, and out of the goodness of his heart, Dave Ullman is providing his coaching services free of charge. However, Dave will incur travel expenses of $858.00 to be at the clinic and boats participating in the Ullman Training Clinic will be asked to contribute a an equal share toward those expenses which are:
1. Flight: $758.00
2. Rental Car: $100.00
Don’t miss this opportunity to learn from the Master himself. Dave Ullman is not just the 2007 Melges 24 World Champion, he is also an icon of the sport of sailing. Your team will walk away with extremely valuable insight into handling the Melges 24.

THE NEWPORT REGATTA IS A LARGE EVENT
Competitors are reminded that this is the premiere one-design regatta in Newport. As such many classes will be participating which means many boats will be vying for use of the two hoists to launch their boats. Additionally, there are many dinghy divisions that will launch from the Sail Newport facilities. Do your team a favor and beat the rush at the hoist by launching Wednesday night or Thursday morning – Then join the Ullman Training Clinic!
