| DAY TWO IN CHARLESTON REVEALS VERY TIGHT RACING IN THE MELGES 24 | |||
Lane's experience in 2008 is obviously paying off big. Her 1-6-2 results for the day are spectacular considering the company kept in the Melges 24 fleet. With participation in Key West, she went up against some of the toughest and most talented in the world. In St. Petersburg, she and her husband, also Melges 24 team companion Peter ranked amongst the highest scoring teams. With a full-on program geared to compete and do well at Nationals, then North Americans and beyond to the 2009 Worlds, Kristen is the only woman helm on the course, regatta by regatta defining herself and crew as one of the brightest teams to watch. In third is long-time, Melges 24 patron of the fleet Simon Strauss. At the big events, Strauss can be found sailing well into the top ten. Today was a clear indication of Strauss's ability to dominate when he took the bullet in race three. This is definitely considered a warm-up event for Strauss as in just a short month and a half, he and his 'Yoga' team will be one of a handful of US based teams at the 2008 Volvo Melges 24 World Championship at Porto Cervo, Sardinia Italy. Twenty-six Melges 24 teams will conclude Charleston Race Week on Sunday.
