IT'S STILL WINTER... AND TIME TO THINK ABOUT SAILING!

28 FEBRUARY 2008 • On February 2nd a fun crowd of Melges 24 sailors headed to Nubs Nob for a great day of skiing and snowboarding! Of course it was just a warm up for St. Pete for some and talk of spring was in the air.

2008 MIDWEST CIRCUIT EVENTS

GATEWAY MELGES 24 SPRING REGATTA

Come join Midwest Melges 24 Fleet Zero for the inaugural Gateway Melges 24 Spring Regatta! The regatta will be held May 2-4, 2008, sailed on the beautiful waters of Carlyle Lake in central Illinois. The host club is Carlyle Sailing Association.

We've got it scheduled to fit into the Midwest travel schedule and we hope that members of your fleets will come to Carlyle to sail with us. The club has excellent regatta facilities with three hoists, two ramps, and plenty of trailer and car parking. The club is friendly and low key and sailing conditions in May are usually excellent.

Entry fee is $175 per boat.

What you get:
- Entry to the inaugural Gateway Melges 24 Spring Regatta - 6 races scheduled
- Complimentary indoor boat storage for boats coming from Charleston Race Week*
- Free beer, cocktails and soft drinks all weekend
- Hors d'oeuvres Friday evening
- Four lunches per boat on Saturday & Sunday
- Four dinner tickets for Saturday night

1800 to 2200: Arrive, registration, boat setup, happy hour

SATURDAY, MAY 3
0730 to 0930: Breakfast, launching, registration
0930: Competitors meeting
1015: Warning signal Race 1, followed by additional races
1800: Dinner at CSA

SUNDAY, MAY 4
0730: Breakfast
0855: Warning signal, followed by additional races
1200: No warning signal will be given after this time

Prize presentation immediately following the final race

MUSKEGON ONE DESIGN REGATTA

Fleet 36 will be holding their annual regatta May 17 & 18. The entry form must be received along with the fee before racing commences on May 17, 2006. Please contact John Schumacher at 231-740-8088 regarding late registrations. Entry fee is $175.00 which includes regatta fee and four tickets for Saturday’s Dinner, payable to Muskegon Yacht Club.

SPERRY TOP-SIDER DETROIT NOOD

May 30 - June 1. Once again, with the large Detroit fleet this is looking to be a big event. Sailing World will have the NOR posted probably in the next month.


CHICAGO YACHT CLUB VERVE ONE DESIGN

We have a new Chicago Fleet 18, Captain, August Hernandez. The Chicago fleet is promoting a new event for the Melges 24 fleet. Chicago Yacht Club Verve One-Design, August 9 – 10, 2008 (Sat & Sun Event).

The regatta will be sailed in open water on Lake Michigan approximately 1.5 miles east of Belmont Harbor with the Chicago skyline as the event backdrop. Dinner and entertainment will take place at Chicago Yacht Club Belmont Station after racing on Saturday.

Despite the fact that Lake Geneva Yacht Club is undergoing some major renovation work — the Fall Championship is on — October 4-5!

There it is — the 2008 Mid West Circuit! Mark your calendars, get out of all those other things that get in the way of sailing, any excuse will do as long as it is way early! It won't be long and I can't wait to see everyone on the starting line!
