BRIAN PORTER WINS 2007 MELGES 24 FALL CHAMPIONSHIP

©2007 JOY | U.S. Melges 24 Class Association 09 OCTOBER 2007 • The Melges 24 Fall Championship is the ultimate Midwest showdown and 2007 was nothing shy of a banner year. Thirty-one teams flocked to the grand waters of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin to race five, knock-down-drag-out races against the best of the best — Alan Field, Paul Hulsey, Argyle Campbell, Chuck Holzman, Mike Dow, Marc Hollerbach just to name a few. Race one brought out nothing but the extreme in the fleet with 2007 U.S. Melges 24 Corinthian Champion owner Holzman shooting straight to the front taking the win, followed by John Podmajersky and Brian Porter taking third. Racing in general was really tough as Peter Wright topped the crop in race two, Field getting a grip on second place, then Hollerbach in third. Another change in the leaderboard was in store for race three, this time August Hernandez stepped out in first, new owner and Corinthian Alex Shafer in second, and in third David Ford. In race four, Field took a drive around the course in first chased by Holzman in second and Campbell finishing third. Campbell caught up in race five to take the top spot followed by Podmajersky, then USMCA Midwest District Governor Mike Dow. Consistency was the paying dividend this past weekend and the biggest payoff went to newly crowned 2007 Melges 24 U.S. National Champion Brian Porter with two points to spare! Finishing in second overall was Alan Field and in third Paul Hulsey. FULL RESULTS
