ANNAPOLIS MELGES 24 FLEET INVITED TO PARTICIPATE AT THE SECOND ANNUAL BOX OF RAIN CHARITY REGATTA

27 SEPTEMBER 2007 • DOWNLOAD AN ENTRY FORM, NOR, and SAILING INSTRUCTIONS for the 2007 Annual Box of Rain Charity Regatta to be held on Sunday, October 7th. Teams will hit the water on Melges 24s for some exciting short-course racing in the harbor area within view of the many attendees visiting the Annapolis sailboat show – and it’s all to benefit local youth.

Entries are due by October 6th and a competitor’s meeting will be held at 10:30 Sunday morning, October 7th at the Annapolis Yacht Club One Design Sailing Center. The event’s party and prize-giving ceremony will be held at Eastport Yacht Club from 4:00-8:00 pm and will feature an oyster roast, delicious food, beverages and music. The Box of Rain Foundation is a 501(c)3 foundation. All entry fees/donations go directly to support the programs of the Box of Rain Foundation.

About Box of Rain:
Box of Rain is a program formed to honor the memory of Lee Griffin. Lee's life and passion for sailing and his community will be celebrated in a program designed to teach life building skills through maritime experiences for local youth-at-risk, targeting kids 9-14 years old. The program launched in May 2003.

Box of Rain is a year-round program designed to inspire and encourage Annapolis area youth, especially those from disadvantaged circumstances, to gain self-esteem and to develop life skills that lead to positive contributions to the community.

The means to success are based on a variety of maritime experiences which include sailing, boating, water safety, environmental and cultural studies as well as learning trade skills. Through mentoring programs, with caring community leaders and professionals, relationships are established which nurture social skills, vocational interests and civic responsibilities.
