HERE'S THE WIND UP FOR THE GOLD CUP REGATTA, AUGUST 18-19

09 AUGUST 2007 - Here is the last reminder about the upcoming 2007 Gold Cup to be held in Charleston, SC the weekend of August 17-19. This year's gold cup is being held in conjunction with the famous Charleston Harbor Challenge. The hospitality of the Charleston M24 fleet and this great American city is second to none and the venue is one of the most challenging in the SE region, if not the country.

A couple of things you need to think about as you prepare for your trip to the Gold Cup. If you are sailing Corinthian, you need to have your ISAF classification for you and your crew all straightened out. Please refer to the ISAF website at www.sailing.org. In addition, there will be a weigh in at this event from 1630 - 1900 on Friday the 17th and 0800 and 0930 on Saturday 18th. I'd recommend you make the earlier weigh-in so you still can do what you have to do to make weight, if necessary, on Saturday. You need to be a class member to participate in this regatta with a valid measurement certificate. I had previously mentioned the SE measurer may be on sight for this event. Unfortunately this is not going to happen this time. If you need your boat measured for future M24 regattas, please get in touch with Tommy Clough on emailor call (321) 537-9079.

I do have one more prospect for crew in Charleston if you are still needing someone. Adam Sauer has been sailing locally with the M24s on Lake Lanier. He's a young guy in his early 20s who sailed for Georgia Tech. He is 145 pounds. If you would like to talk to him about crewing, he can be reached on email or 214-707-4398.

If you have any questions on the event, please contact Charleston M24 fleet captain Reggie Fairchild at reggiefairchild@gmail.com or 843-259-1717.

To get you thinking beyond Charleston, we have some other excellent SE events for you to think about attending.

Gulf Coast Championship/WFORC - Pensacola, FL - October 13-14 - This is a nationally ranked event this year. Expect a good turnout.
Melbourne Race Week - Melbourne, FL - October 27-28
ACC/King's Day Regatta - Jacksonville, FL - November 16-18 - Also a nationally ranked event
Key Largo Regatta - Key Largo, FL - December 8-9 - A good opportunity to tuneup for KWRW. Storage arrangements can be made between Key Largo and KWRW.

Let me know if you have questions and I'll see you in Charleston!
