IT'S NOT TOO LATE — THE MELGES 24s ARE IN NEWPORT THIS WEEKEND!

09 JULY 2007 • Still time to join the Northeast Fleet for the Sail Newport Regatta, July 14th and 15Th at Fort Adams, Newport. Join the Newport Melges Fleet on what should be an exciting weekend of strong thermal southerlies, highly competitive ocean course racing (wind and swells = good surfing). Sail Newport will be the epicenter for a great event, run by one of the top PROs in the world, Peter Reggio.

The 24 fleet has several top national winners and contenders showing up including Neil Sullivan from Annapolis and Simon Strauss from New York, in addition to several local pro boats and talented amateurs. Additionally, the Saturday nights party at Sail Newport is well known for being the best party of the summer sailing season, with great bands and plenty of cheap libations to go around. One popular misconception is that Newport is too expensive to stay during an event, but this couldn’t be further from the truth. As a major Navy installation, Newport and Middletown (only 5 minutes further from Newport) have numerous major hotel chains located along Route 114 and minutes away from the race venue of all prices, including Best Westerns, Hampton Inns, Howard Johnson’s, Holiday Inn Express, and other hotels which can accommodate your whole crew inexpensively.
