| JOHN PODMAJERSKY WINS THE 2007 MELGES 24 DETROIT NOOD | |||
On Saturday, the Melges 24 fleet managed two races despite the continued light conditions. In race two Podmajersky got a jump on the fleet with an almost instant win. Thomas Ritter on 'Tramp' from Bloomfield Hills, Mich. followed Podmajersky across the finish line in second and in third was Chuck Holzman on 'Flyer' from Farmington Hills, Mich. The third race of the series offered a complete turnover in the standings with Marty Jensen from Charlevoix, Mich. having a spectacular race on 'ZigZag' taking the bullet, Jennings was second and in third was none other than East Grand Rapids' own Ken Gray on 'USA-175.' Sunday was set to be the showdown, but early on with the forecast predicting severe thunderstorms racing was cancelled leaving Saturday's results as the finals. FULL RESULTS One thing is for certain — the Detroit area is one of heated competition and this is where the heart of the Melges 24 in the U.S. meets the max! If this regatta was any indication to what lies ahead for Nationals in September — then pack your gear, put the boat on the trailer because this will be the biggest and best Nationals yet! The Detroit NOOD marks the half-way point in the International Melges 24 Class' North American Ranking event series. The next event is the famous U.S. Gold Cup in Charleston, South Carolina in August, and then onto the long awaited 2007 U.S. Melges 24 National Championship on September 21-23.
