2006 MELGES 24 WFORC, OCTOBER 14-15

20 SEPTEMBER 2006 • The next opportunity to compete in the Southeast District Championship is the West Florida Ocean Race (WFORC) in Pensacola, Florida on October 14th-15th. For those unfamiliar with the WFORC, it is an excellent regatta hosted by the historic Pensacola Yacht Club. The Race Committee does an outstanding job and historically runs 4-5 one mile windward/leeward races on Saturday and 2 on Sunday.

The Race Committee works hard to get us off the water early on Sunday to allow everyone time to get the boats out of the water, packed-up and attend the awards ceremony. October is the perfect time to race on Pensacola Bay with a 10-15 knot sea breeze in the afternoon and temperatures in the high 70’s and low 80’s. Expect solid competition, 12-17 boats and fantastic parties. LeAnne Pickering and Doug Kessler are hosting a cocktail party for the Melges 24 & 32 fleets on Saturday night. It should not be missed. The web site for registration and more information is www.pensacolayachtclub.org. It is a great opportunity to prepare for the Nationals in Jacksonville, Florida in November. Please contact Reid Collins at with any questions or storage needs between regattas.
