GARY STUNZ WINS 2006 MELGES 24 PACIFIC NORTHWEST CHAMPIONSHIP

14 AUGUST 2006 • On July 22nd and 23rd the Pacific Northwest Melges 24 Championships took place in Seattle, Washington. With temps in the mid-90s and winds blowing 6-8 knots, seven boats showed up to race the two day event, by the end of the regatta we ended up getting 14 races off with every boat in the fleet actually taking a WIN! The event went to new road warrior Gary Stuntz on Cool Beans with 27 points overall, Glenn Klute in Trophy Wife in second place with 31 points. Marv Torland took third Puttansca with 40 points with Tim Ashler on Tikanga with a close 41 points.

On Saturday before racing, the group had a great breakfast and then the race committee got off seven races with only 4 to 6 knots of breeze. Saturday night was spent with the whole fleet partying at the Queen City Yacht Club having a great Pacific Northwest barbecue of Copper River Salmon, brats and ribs.<>

Sunday there was another breakfast and then another seven races in 6 to 8 knots of wind. The racing was very tight and every body had a very good time. Pretty much everybody went swimming between races.
