MELGES 24 SAILORS; PLEASE READ THIS CAREFULLY AND LOOK AT YOUR CALENDAR!!!!!

07 AUGUST 2006 • The Gold Cup in Newport approaches fast – August 18-20. The Northeast has had the BEST attendance of any District at events like the World Championship in Key Largo.

Let’s make sure that when we host an important regatta in our own home District, we get EVERYONE in the northeast to attend!! So far, entries stand at 15; let’s help out J.C. Raby and the fantastic team at Sail Newport by showing up. For those of you who could not attend the Sail Newport regatta in early July, the Race Committee did a fabulous job, Newport Harbor is beautiful, and there is a lot for your spouses and family to do in and around Newport. PLEASE check your calendars now and let’s have a GREAT attendance!! See http://www.sailnewport.org/npt/m24goldcup.aspx

The next and final two regattas in the Northeast District Championship are the Larchmont NOOD September 9th and 10th and the Fall Flail in Annapolis October 14th and 15th.

For those of you traveling down from Newport (especially those from NJ and from Annapolis) after the Gold Cup, the Larchmont Yacht Club has agreed to allow Melges 24s to be stored in their parking lot between the dates of the Gold Cup and the Larchmont NOOD – for free! In addition, to encourage attendance, the Larchmont NOOD will count 150% points towards the Northeast District Championship, with that beautiful half-model trophy presented by JC Raby in 2005 to compete for. The Larchmont NOOD sign-up is at http://www.sailingworld.com/sw_nood.jsp?typeID=403&catID=604&exclude=NOOD; please sign up by August 18 to avoid a late fee.

After Larchmont, the final regatta of the Northeast District Championship will be the Fall Flail held in Annapolis October 14th and 15th. For those of you planning to take their boats down to Florida for the Nationals in November, this is the logical next stop and the final regatta at which both the Northeast District Championship and the Chesapeake Cup prizes will be awarded.

So EVERYONE, please check your calendars and turn up to as many regattas as you can; we want to encourage as many Melges 24 sailors as possible to attend so we can recruit more and enlarge our fleets.
