MELGES 24s RAMPAGE AT CHARLESTON RACE WEEK

07 APRIL 2006 • Eighteen Melges 24s are set to race at the 2006 Charleston Race Week presented by Seabrook Island. This regatta offers sailors a chance to enjoy great racing and southern hospitality. Scheduled for April 6-9, 2006, Charleston Race Week is an annual premiere One-Design, PHRF and IRC regatta for racing sailboats over 22 feet in length. The regatta is an event of the South Carolina Maritime Heritage Foundation, in association with the Charleston Ocean Racing Association (CORA). Profits from this event support the classic tall ship for education, the Spirit of South Carolina.

Amongst the M24 competitors set to appear is Rick Orchard on Grins, Reggie Fairchild on Wireless, Guy Mossman on Riot Act, John and Marcus Durlach on Spray and last, but certainly not least is Charleston's Melges 24 host with the most, USMCA Southeast District Governor Ryan Hamm on When Pigs Fly. Other Melges 24s that have traveled quite the distance to participate is USMCA Northeast District Governor Bill Blank and his partner Ben Cudd, Bill Carleton, Steve Jones and Eric Andrews, Tipton Daily and Gary Schneidman. With the weather (and the wind report) expected to be near perfect and racing conditions up to par all the teams are looking forward to great parties, fun racing and that one-of-a-kind Charleston friendly atmosphere.
