The current U.S. Melges 24 Class Association Executive Committee and Board of District Governors convened on a conference call on the evening of Tuesday, August 22 to fully review the outcome of the 2018-20 elections, and the results from the four rule change proposals put forth to the membership for voting.

It is the intention of the Executive Committee to keep all current members as informed as possible, as these items can have a dramatic impact on our amazing Melges 24 fleet in the U.S.A. and around the world.

I am happy to report that two of the four proposals were approved to be further refined and submitted to the International Melges 24 Class Association (IM24CA) AGM taking place in November for full worldwide Class consideration.

Proposal 1 regarding C.2.2. WEIGHTS that allow skippers to claim a set weight of 154 lbs, and Proposal 3, 9.7 RUNNING RIGGING allowing for the use of more superior materials to be used for a jib halyard were approved.

Proposal 2, C.2.2 WEIGHTS that removed the weight rule completely was not approved. I can understand that this news may be disappointing, but the crew weight issue has been one of great discussion and controversy for a long time. If you voted in favor of this change, please contact your District Governor to share any further concerns, insights and opinions regarding this rule change proposal.

Proposal 4, F.6 STANDING RIGGING was withdrawn during the meeting by the member who submitted the rule proposal, therefore was not approved.

I would also like to take a moment to extend a big round of congratulations to the newly elected 2018-20 Executive Committee officers — Travis Weisleder (President), Roger Counihan (Vice President), KC Shannon (Secretary) and to George Haynie (Treasurer). The incoming leadership team is a strong one, and it is certain they will do an extraordinary job picking up where the current Executive Committee leaves off.

It is with them that the USM24CA can look forward to more fleet growth, progress and success.

Warmest regards,

Steven Boho,
U.S. Melges 24 Class President
USA-839, The 300
