Dear Melges 24 Sailors,
I hope you had a great summer and are enjoying an active, successful fall racing season.
While winter sailing may seem far off, planning for Quantum Key West 2013 is well underway and I want to take this opportunity to touch base.
The 25th Anniversary edition of Key West Race Week was by all accounts a great success. We are looking forward to building on the energy and enthusiasm that was generated last January. The competition was world class and the evening socials at the Kelly's Caribbean shoreside venue were very popular.
A Key West hallmark has been strong class racing and we are working to build numbers for both the longstanding and emerging fleets. Positive news from many of the classes and other indicators point to another year featuring great competition.
We are excited to see 11 Melges 24 entries already posted on the race week web site. Those numbers are well ahead of last year's pace and we have some players in the class here in the U.S. and overseas helping with a grass roots effort to get their friends heading to Key West for what is always a great week of racing. Some of the class stalwarts have the promised to participate in a speed clinic on either Saturday or Sunday prior to racing, more on that development next month.
We hope you are planning to race with us as you have in the past. As you know, it's important to establish early critical mass given the fact that strong numbers attract even more entries. It would be helpful for you to enter now if you know that you will be racing with us next January - here are the links to the Online Entry and the Current Entry List, it is easy to do with the entry fee not due until later in December.
The classes are building with entries running ahead of the previous three years, which bodes well for terrific racing. We are routinely updating the logistics and planning pages on the event web site and the Notice and Conditions of Race is available via this link: Notice of Race.
We look forward to delivering another memorable Key West regatta and to the prospects of having you and the Melges 24 class back with us for the 26th edition of this winter classic. Ten races over five days for One Design, IRC, PHRF and Sportboat programs from across the country and around the world will make for a truly great start to the 2013 sailing season.
We're always eager to hear what you have to say and provide what owners and classes want. If you have any news or notes about the Melges 24 class and other owners' plans, those would also be helpful and much appreciated. I hope to see you in Key West next January and look forward to hearing from you.
