Following on the success of the US National Championship, the USMCA is pleased to announce the publication of the Class’s two-year calendar of National events for 2012 and 2013. Drawing on extensive input, the calendar was designed to:

1) Focus the Class' and our members' limited resources and time on fewer, higher quality events;

2) Create a calendar that would allow those members who wish to travel, to plan early and to travel in sync, increasing numbers at high-profile events;

3) Align efforts on both Coasts -- and points between -- to build one unified calendar that rewards continued ownership; and

4) Support our current success stories, while laying the groundwork for future growth in targeted areas.

"Our goal is to help make the next two years be like the first two years of our Class: a period of excitement, growth, and close collaboration amongst owners and builder," remarked US Class President, Chris Farkas. "This calendar is a critical component of that plan."

The following eight regattas have been submitted to the IMCA for consideration as World Ranking Series events each year:

2012
1. Quantum Key West Race Week
2. Bacardi Miami Sailing Week
3. Porsche Cup of Naples | Atlantic Coast Championship
4. Charleston Race Week | US Melges 24 Gold Cup
5. Sperry Top-Sider Detroit NOOD Regatta
6. Melges 24 US National Championship – Seattle
7. Columbia Gorge One Design Regatta | Pacific Coast Championship
8. Melges 24 North American Championship – San Francisco

2013
1. Quantum Key West Race Week
2. Bacardi Miami Sailing Week | Atlantic Coast Championship
3. Charleston Race Week | Melges 24 US National Championship
4. Sperry Top-Sider Seattle NOOD Regatta
5. Sperry Top-Sider Detroit NOOD Regatta
6. US Melges 24 Gold Cup -- Chicago
7. SFYC Invitational Regatta | Pacific Coast Championship
8. Melges 24 World Championship – San Francisco

With Sydney slated to host the Worlds in 2014, we will have two years of back-to-back North Americans, before the next US-based Worlds in 2016. This presents the Class with the opportunity to support two regions and two venues. The USMCA has recommended the centrality and new infrastructure in Chicago for the 2014 North American Championship, while building in the meantime the domestically and internationally attractive venue of Miami for a 2015/16 proposed North Americans/Worlds cycle.
